How to use AI to set up reminders and a daily routine

The short answer: you can ask an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude to turn a messy list of things you need to do into a simple daily routine, and to write out reminder wording for you. The AI plans and drafts. A reminder only goes off when you save it in a tool that sends alerts, like the Reminders app, your phone's clock, or a calendar. Think of AI as a helpful planner sitting beside you, not an alarm clock.

Step by step

1. Write down what your day looks like. Open your AI assistant and type, in your own words, what you do on a normal day: when you wake up, appointments, chores, walks, calls with family. Do not worry about order or spelling.

2. Ask for a simple routine. Here is a prompt you can copy and change:

"Here is what I do on a typical weekday: wake up around 7, breakfast, water the plants, walk the dog, lunch at noon, a phone call with my sister on Tuesdays, and dinner at 6. Please turn this into a gentle daily routine in a short list with times. Keep it relaxed, with breaks."

3. Adjust it until it feels right. The first answer is a draft. Reply with things like "Move my walk to the morning" or "Make this less busy." You can go back and forth as many times as you like, and it costs nothing.

4. Ask for a list of reminders. Once you like the routine, type:

"Now list the five things I am most likely to forget, and suggest a short reminder message for each, such as 'Take a glass of water to your desk.'"

5. Put the reminders into a real tool. This is the step people often skip. Copy each reminder into the Reminders app on your phone, an alarm, or your calendar, and set the time and repeat (daily, weekly). If you are not sure how, ask the AI: "I have an iPhone. Show me, one tap at a time, how to create a daily reminder at 8 AM." Tell it which phone or computer you use so the directions match.

6. Review after one week. Come back and tell the AI what worked and what you ignored. Try: "Reminders at 3 PM keep getting skipped. Suggest a better time or a different way to remember."

What to watch out for

Check before you rely on it

  • AI does not send reminders by itself. Unless you have set up a separate tool, nothing will ring. Always confirm the reminder is saved and the time is correct.
  • AI can be wrong. It sometimes mixes up times, days or details. Read every suggestion before you use it.
  • Medicine and health. Use AI only for general ideas. Take medicines exactly as your doctor or pharmacist told you, and ask them before changing any schedule. A pill organizer or your pharmacy's reminder service is a safer main tool.
  • Money and legal dates. For bills, taxes, or legal deadlines, confirm the date with your bank, the official website, or a lawyer. Do not trust a date the AI gives you.
  • Keep private details out. Avoid typing account numbers, passwords, or your full address into an AI chat.

A few extra ideas

  • Ask for a "weekly reset" checklist you can do every Sunday.
  • Ask for a short evening routine to help you wind down.
  • If a routine feels overwhelming, ask the AI to "cut this to the three most important things."
