Make a Simple Monthly Budget With AI

A budget does not need a spreadsheet degree. Give AI your rough numbers and it will build a simple plan, show where the money goes and suggest places to trim.

Step by step

  1. List monthly income. Pension, Social Security, part-time pay. Round numbers are fine.
  2. List fixed costs. Rent or mortgage, insurance, utilities, phone, subscriptions.
  3. List variable costs. Groceries, fuel, health costs, fun money.
  4. Ask for a table. With totals, and what is left over each month.
  5. Ask for ideas to trim. Then decide for yourself which ones suit you.

What you need

Build it, step by step

  1. List the numbers. Use last month's bank statement as a guide.
  2. Group them. Ask the assistant to sort into needs, wants and savings.
  3. Find the gap. Ask: "Where could I trim 10 percent without feeling it?"
  4. Make a one-page plan. Ask for a table you can copy to a spreadsheet.
  5. Review monthly.

A worked example

  1. The facts. Maria has $3,100 a month after taxes. Rent is $1,200, utilities $220, groceries $450, insurance $180, car $250, phone $60, and she saves $150. She has $600 left and is not sure where it goes.
  2. The prompt. "Here are my monthly numbers. Sort them into needs, wants and savings, find where the extra $600 might be going and suggest three small changes."
  3. What AI might say. Totals by category, a note that spending on dining and subscriptions is not listed, and ideas such as tracking small purchases for a month.
  4. Maria's next step. She checks last month's bank statement to find the real figures and adds a "small stuff" line.

Build a simple monthly budget table from these numbers and show what is left each month. Income: $3,200. Rent: $1,100. Groceries: $450. [add the rest] Suggest three small ways to save.

Good to know. Use rounded numbers and category names only. Never share account numbers or passwords.
