AI at Work for Non-Technical People

You do not need to be a coder to benefit from AI at work. Writing, summarizing and planning are good places to begin, as long as you follow your company policy.

Step by step

  1. Read your policy. Ask HR or IT what tools are approved and what data must stay private.
  2. Pick a safe first task. Rewrite an email, outline a meeting or summarize public information.
  3. Remove confidential details. Do not paste client data, financials or internal documents unless your tool is approved.
  4. Check the output. You are accountable for what you send.
  5. Keep a prompt notebook. Save the prompts that work.

What to expect

Expect help with writing and planning.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not paste confidential data. Avoid ignoring policy.

A good next step

Ask HR about approved tools.

A prompt you can copy

Type this into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini

I work in [role]. List ten tasks in a typical week for this role where AI could help, and note which ones involve sensitive information I should keep out of a chatbot.

Good to know. If your employer provides an approved AI tool, use it instead of a personal account for work content.
