Differentiate a Lesson for Different Learners With AI

One of the hardest parts of teaching is reaching every learner. AI can produce several versions of a passage or task quickly, saving prep hours.

Step by step

  1. Paste the original text. Use public domain or your own material.
  2. Name the levels. Ask for versions at lower reading level, grade level and stretch.
  3. Keep the content the same. Say that the key ideas must stay identical.
  4. Check for accuracy. Read the simplified versions for lost meaning.
  5. Add supports. Ask for sentence starters, vocabulary lists or visuals ideas.

What to expect

Expect several versions of the same text or task.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not lose key ideas in simplification. Avoid copyrighted text.

A good next step

Ask a colleague to review.

A prompt you can copy

Type this into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini

Here is a passage: [paste]. Rewrite it at three reading levels (grade 3, grade 5 and grade 7) keeping the same key facts. Add a three-word vocabulary list and two comprehension questions for each version.

Good to know. Do not paste copyrighted text beyond what your license allows.
